Country: Canada. Karly Hlynialuk. The phone is ringing, you answer; revealing, uncovering and exposing the true you. You feel the harsh, stab like criticisms of society on your shoulders. You find yourself, back where you started, in the never ending cycle of uniformity and predictability. Society's norms, like the bully, dragging you down. This film is entitled Prank Call. It is an experimental stop motion film, comprised of an antique telephone, a banana, nails and a heat lamp. I enjoy the choppiness and strict format of piecing together a stop motion film, turning photos into a moving image. I have incorporated both diegetic and non-diegetic sounds to add a strange lifelike quality to the telephone and banana. This film touches on themes of telling your personal truths; peeling away your insecurities like the peel of a banana; putting them out on the "line," and in turn, having them torn. I incorporated the heat lamp to shine down on the background almost creating a pressured atmosphere, a hot, and uncomfortable climate for the viewer to submerse themselves in. It is short, and appears very odd at first, which is what I like about it; all of the different reactions. It can mean something different to anyone who watches.
